We asked MFA alumni publishing books this spring what they’re reading, and what they'd recommend. Here's Sarah Pinder on graphic novelist Tommi Parrish:
Australian cartoonist Tommi Parrish riffs off the work of Lydia Lunch and William Blake in this comic. Intimacy, embodiment, isolation and the tension between negotiated aggression and the violence of social and state control are all packed into this short, saturated work. How do we get what we need? How do we stay present? How do we be with each other, and with ourselves—especially in the shadow of forces that want to assimilate or obliterate us? I got my copy in the mail shortly after Trump’s inauguration, and it has stayed on my desk since then.
Common Place is out on April 27th from Coach House Books. Join Sarah for the official launch event on May 25 at D-Beatstro (7pm).
